We're proud to say that we have contributed to the initiative and making of the BBC World Service program People Fixing the World in the episode How to put the internet in a box.

Open Source software is one of the many reasons that people are able to access information and use computers in contexts that aren't connected to the internet. Not surprisingly, given a context where internet connectivity is unaffordable, Free Open Source Software is playing a huge role in providing solutions where there's a need.

Over the years, a great deal of programs have been developed. Listen to the program and learn more about the many uses of these software projects, some of which also play a great role in ICT solutions set up with FAIR's partners in Malawi.

If you're interested in working with FAIR's software setup, which is a Ubuntu-based combination of many projects, please refer to our always-in-progress Offline Digital Library - it can surely use help from software developers and interested alike, so you are most welcome to reach out to us.
